Offshore Law is inoperable
The deputies in the Industries Committee failed to finalize on Tuesday the debates on the Law regarding the conduct of oil operations on the sea (offshore), the discussions being delayed for Monday (at rapporteur level) and for Tuesday (for the final report). The deputies did not come to an agreement with the Black Sea operators in relation to the tax regime.
Likewise, the discussions got stuck to the articles referring to the operators’ obligations to procure goods and services from companies with 25% Romanian capital and to hire Romanians accounting for at least a quarter of the total number of employees.

Sorin Gal, ANRM: Romanian gas will be more expensive, overtaxation reduces even more of their competitiveness
The costs for the extraction of gas from the Romanian perimeters will rise over the following years because Romanian inland deposits are increasingly more depleted of resources and the gas coming from deepwater offshore exploitation in the Black Sea becomes more expensive to extract, due to the necessary special works and technologies, raises the alarm Sorin Gal, head of the Directorate for the Management, Assessment and Concession of Oil Resources within the National Agency for Mineral Resources (ANRM).
He made this statement during a seminar occasioned by the launch of the study „Natural gas perspectives in Romania and modalities to capitalize them more effectively”, elaborated by Vasile Iuga, author of the study, together with Radu Dudău, cofounder and manager of think-tank Policy Energy Group.
„Additional taxation makes gas more expensive and less competitive. The gas extraction cost in Romania will rise, as there will be more and more expensive to obtain production from depleted deposits, of which some are into production from 1910-1912, and the deepwater gas in the Black Sea will also involve higher costs” said Sorin Gal.
