HCCJ announces 3 years and a half of imprisonment penalty for Liviu Dragnea

The High Court of Cassation and Justice convicted Liviu Dragnea, on Thursday, to an imprisonment penalty of 3 years and 6 months in the file DGASPC Teleorman child protection and social assistance directorate, in connection to the employment within this institution of two persons which were in fact working for PSD organization.

The ruling is not final. The three-year-and six-month imprisonment for instigation to abuse of office was comingled with a two-year suspended sentence for involvement in a 2012 referendum to impeach then President Traian Basescu, which the court cancelled, hence the new sentence.

The decision was taken by two of a three-judge panel. The third voted for acquittal. On the other hand, Dragnea was acquitted of incitement to false representation. The Opposition is requesting Liviu Dragnea’s dismissal from the position of head of the Chamber of Deputies.

Government extends by 2027 agreements for 11 gas perimeters concessioned by Romgaz

The Government wants to extend by 2027 the oil agreements signed between the National Agency for Mineral Resources (ANRM) and the gas manufacturer controlled by the Romanian state, Romgaz, regarding 11 natural gas exploitation perimeters concessioned by Romgaz, which are to expire this year, in 2019 and 2020, respectively. According to ANRM, by extending these agreements, an annual average amount of 15.1 million lei will be added to the state budget from the royalties collected for the revenues obtained by Romgaz from the sale of natural gas extracted from these perimeters from 2019 through 2023.

Protests against justice laws resume

Over 7,000 people came on Thursday evening in Victoriei Square to protest once again against the amendments brought by PSD-ALDE to the laws on justice and on the criminal codes.

The manifestation took place within the context in which PSD leader Liviu Dragnea, who is already convicted through a final ruling, has just received a new imprisonment penalty (3 years and 6 months of imprisonment), in first ruling, in the fictious employments file.
