Romania imported from Gazprom over 900 million cubic meters of natural gas in the first nine months

Russian gas company Gazprom exported to Romania 917 million cubic meters of natural gas in the first nine months of this year, up 32% compared to the 690 million cubic meters of natural gas exported in the same period last year, shows statistics released by the Gazprom group on Wednesday, informs Interfax. These data show a steady increase in Gazprom’s gas exports to Romania in the last four years, from 59 million cubic meters in the first nine months of 2015 to 458 million cubic meters in the first nine months of 2016 to 690 million cubic meters in 2017 and 917 million cubic meters in 2018.

AmCham: Romania’s energy security may be affected by lack of investment

The American Chamber of Commerce in Romania (AmCham Romania) drew the attention on Thursday on the lack of private investment in one of the main strategic pillars of the economy – the field of electricity generation, and warns that Romania’s energy security may be affected. „In recent years, private investment in this sector has shrunk dramatically to almost zero. The conventional power generation park in Romania is aging and needs massive capital investment. Major installed capacities are approaching the withdrawal period for reasons of seniority, compliance with European environmental or economic legislation, „the release said.

The Government adopts the GEO to set up the Sovereign Investment Fund

Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă announced that the Government will adopt the draft emergency ordinance for the establishment of the Sovereign Development and Investment Fund (FSDI) on Thursday, stating that this financial instrument is necessary to support the economic development of Romania.
