After posting a Facebook message on Friday night, condemning the violent actions and calling the Interior minister to assume full responsibility over the gendarmes’ intervention, President Klaus Iohannis has asked again Interior minister Carmen Dan on Saturday to take the responsibility for the way she managed the situation during protests and o present a detailed report on the way police force has intervened and „especially following whose order”.

FM Teodor Melescanu has assured Euro-Atlantic partners of Romania that our country will remain committed to the common principles and values. In a Facebook post, FM Melescanu said the violence during a peaceful rally is unacceptable, arguing it is important that the freedom of speech should not escalate in aggression. The FM talked about the Centennial Year, voicing hope that tensions in the Romanian society should not escalate beyond dialogue.”Violence at a peaceful, democratic meeting is unacceptable, peaceful protests are an example of legitimate exercise of democracy. I am convinced that a great part of those attending this manifestation have wanted to exert the fundamental right of freedom of political speech, but it is very important that it would not escalate to violence,” Melescanu says. Vlad Voiculescu: The signing of the initiative for the amendment of the electoral laws will start on 1 September
Former Health Minister Vlad Voiculescu, founding member of the Romania Together Movement, announced that the signing of the initiative to amend the electoral laws, which proposes to double the number of members of the diaspora and the election of mayors in two rounds, will start on September 1, and involves the assembly of at least 100,000 signatures from 12 counties.
Romania’s primary energy resources, up 4.5% in the first semester
Primary energy resources increased by 4.5% in the first six months of 2018, to 17,045 million tonnes of oil equivalent (tep), and electricity prices fell by 0.5% over the same period of the previous year, reaching to 33.984 billion kWh, according to data released on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
